Lock-out

Lock

Lock

So, what’s LOTO exactly?

Lockout tagout is made of two components:

1. Lockout means that all power to a specific dangerous machine has been
disconnected. The machine should also be locked down to prevent power
from flowing into it during maintenance.

2. Tagout is the label that warns workers not to reactivate the machine at this
time. Lockout and tagout should be conducted together whenever possible,
though if lockout is not available, tagout is better than nothing.

Why do I need LOTO?

Whenever a dangerous machine is being maintained and its power NEEDS to be
off. Maintenance includes cleaning, installation, servicing and related activities.

LOTO prevents the accidental activation of such machines, saving lives!

What do I need to build my own LOTO System?

It’s more than the physical locks and tags! To develop a good and safe system,
LOTO should be a part of employee training and safety protocols.

In addition to these, you should have your LOTO system reviewed for maximum
security, and make your rules known to outside contractors when necessary.

Do I really need LOTO? It’s common sense when a machine shouldn’t be activated, right?

Maybe it’s common sense. But your workers and contractors are only human,
just like you.

All it takes is a little lapse in concentration or miscommunication, and serious
injury or death may result.

Trust me: it’s far better to be safe than sorry!
